Men accused of murdering politician's son remanded

BY PAUL A REID Observer West writer

MONTEGO BAY, St James - TWO men who are charged with murder in connection with the gun slaying of Tayon Colomathi, son of former People's National Party councillor Donald Colomath, were denied bail when they appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small ordered that the two, Junior Green and Junior Haughton, be remanded until Monday when bail would be considered.

The resident magistrate ruled that because Green was still to secure legal representation it was best to wait until both men had secured lawyers before bail applications be made.

Attorney Adrian Dayes had appeared on behalf of Haughton.

The younger Colomathi, who was of a Westgate Hills address, was shot and killed in mid-January outside a schoolroom political meeting that was being chaired by his father in the Hampton area of St James.

The police have linked the shooting to an ongoing gang feud.
