LUCEA, Hanover — THE Hanover Fire Department says it is having great difficulties in accessing some communities within the parish due to poor road conditions.

Courtney Nembhard, district officer attached to the Hanover Fire Department, identified Blenheim, Dias and Bark leading into Richmond as among the more hard-to-reach communities.

"We are facing an uphill task in reaching those places when it comes to emergency calls," he said.

Blenheim is the birthplace of National Hero Sir Alexander Bustamante who was Jamaica's first prime minister. In 2005 the replica birth building was destroyed by bush fire. The structure has since been rebuilt.

Nembhard says the situation is so bad that the department's efforts would be wasted in attempting to reach a fire in Blenheim and the other named communities.

"I can tell you this... It doesn't make any sense trying to go up there to save a structure there, we will not reach on time," he said.

Nembhard told a recent Hanover Parish Council meeting that the paramedic ambulance had similar problems to the fire truck.
