MONTEGO BAY, St James — A young single mother who is alleged to have used her supervisor's password to access sensitive information on the database of a Montego Bay based outsourcing company and facilitated the theft of US$36,500 (over J$3 million) was offered bail when she appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates court last week.
Brittany Lawson, a 21-year-old single mother of a three-year-old child who was a trainee at the company for about three months before the alleged acts started, is facing several changes including breaches of the Cybercrime Act.
The police are alleging that between December 12 last year and January this year, 14 unauthorised transfers totalling US$36,500 were made from the accounts of clients.
A report was made to the police on January 4 the court heard and five days later when she was questioned, she is alleged to have made certain admissions including that she was encouraged to do it by a man she had met.
She was charged on January 12 the court also heard.
Attorney-at-law Adrian Dayes who is representing the accused woman, told the court he would be challenging the alleged confession and said his client was still being questioned without his presence even after he was retained.
She was offered bail in the sum of $300,000 with up to three sureties and will return to court on March 8 when the charges will be mentioned.
Conditions of her bail are that she is to report to the Freeport police twice a week, her travel documents are to be surrendered to the police and stop orders are to be placed against her at both international airports.
