'MoBay shouldn't have to come to Kingston for everything' — Hylton

Horace Hines

Thursday, February 02, 2012

MONTEGO BAY, St James - MINISTER of Industry, Investment and Commerce Anthony Hylton has said that one reason for junior minister Sharon Folkes Abrahams' appointment in the ministry is to establish stronger links in Montego Bay.

"I hope you will see that as an increased acknowledgment and role of Montego Bay, that we have deliberately brought Sharon Folkes Abrahams into the ministry to have a greater presence for the ministry itself in Montego Bay and the several agencies in Montego Bay," Hylton told local business leaders.

The minister who was meeting members of the Montego Bay business sector at the Montego Bay Free Zone said his ministry was working to ensure "that Montego Bay does not have to come to Kingston for everything".

"We hope to have most things, certainly that which affects you in any significant way... to have as much of that situated right here in Montego Bay to ease the burden and that additional cost of doing business," Hylton said.

Folkes Abrahams, who lauded the role that the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry is playing in assisting the business sector in the resort town, announced that an office of industry, investment and commerce is to be established in Montego Bay.

"I know that the chamber is a vibrant organisation, committed to growth for Montego Bay... I am also committed, in fact we are going to be opening an office of industry, investment and commerce in Montego Bay so that we have a greater presence to facilitate business in Montego Bay," Folkes Abrahams, the West Central St James MP, said.

Hylton said that a part of his ministry's focus is "to remove the stumbling blocks" that "have year in and year out" frustrated businesses.

Okay,so I ask to second the headline and to endorse that Clarendon, and other parishes within the Middlesex geography should be able to have the social infrastructures and amenities closer to us than to dodge bullets into Kingston.May Pen can be revitalize,we have our lovely Mandeville,St. Ann's Bay and even Albert town Trelawny.Lets utilize our grounds. innovatively.Lets get ahead: Belize, Brazil, Venezuela is striding high heels like Mr. Bolt 'mek wi pull up wi sacks awh win dem nuh?'CHINGCHANG

I agree this is a good idea, but let this be a start as all other parishes will need to stop coming to kingston for everything. Good move

MoBay shouldn't have to come to Kingston for "anything."
