Montego Bay officially welcomed Usain Bolt's Tracks & Records (UBT&R) in May earlier this year, signalling the third such opening in Jamaica. The brand is distinctively Jamaican, and offerings incorporate local seasonings, spices and cooking methods to deliver that truly authentic Jamaican flavour and style.

UBT&R General Manager Amit Mahbubani and Executive Chef Louis Matthews rolled out the welcoming place mats and gave Thursday Food a slice of the offerings.

With such an iconic brand as that of Usain Bolt, we had to delve deeper into some of the inner workings and processes associated with maintaining this brand that is set to open 15 locations in the UK over the next five years, through a deal with UK-based Casual Dining Restaurants Group (CDRG).

“Tracks & Records symbolises the best of Jamaican cuisine done to the best and highest specifications. We use sweetwood for our jerk products, meat is seasoned a day or two before and we source the finest herbs and spices to achieve the best quality. We aim to appeal to a wide range of customers, with a variety of casual dining options with Jamaican fusion flavours. We incorporate the unique flavours of jerk, curry, Scotch bonnet peppers, coconut, and many other traditional Jamaican and Caribbean spices, which are key elements of our incredible food quality, consistency and taste,” Matthews explained.

Mahbubani explained that the food is a major drawing card for guests, but the overall experience and the pull of the Usain Bolt star power sets the eatery apart.

“With our food and beverage offerings, the design of the space, contemporary casual dining setting, with sport-and culture-themed infusions, our mega screen that is optimal for watching big sporting events, plus the power of 'Brand Bolt', our Bolt sports memorabilia and Bolt of Bolts statue is a crowd favourite, it all adds to a unique experience for our local and international visitors,” Mahbubani explained.

Mahbubani added that customer service and leaving a good impression is also of key importance.

“We want people to leave with a feeling of fun, satisfaction with their meal and service and pride knowing that this is a 100% Jamaican product. The plan is to deliver at the highest level and have persons planning to be repeat guests. Patrons should come in with high expectations and get the best experience of real Jamaican vibes and leave greatly satisfied,” Mahbubani added.

Plans are currently in place to expand the dining space to include the first floor of the location based on the consistent growth in demand. The design will be consistent with the current theme and is set to open by Christmas. New menu items are also being added and will be ready for introduction by October. A new lunch promotion dubbed “The 9.58 Special” was recently launched and it guarantees your lunch from a special menu in 9.58 minutes or else it is free.
