AFTER a successful first season with Shenna Carby taking home the big prizes, Mission Catwalk is ready to make another mark on the fashion scene with a host of new designers for season two.
This season sees a few changes with 20 designers from across the Caribbean, in comparison to the first season's 15, who were all Jamaican. Like the previous season, the series will test and nurture the talents of the contestants through numerous challenges geared at identifying and honing a range of creative skills and abilities.
At the launch last Tuesday, TEENage got the chance to see a preview of the season's first episode where there will be a major elimination, sending home five designers after the first challenge.
Ayanna Dixon who placed second last season, stated: "There is a lot of potential in this season's contestants, they are very competitive and they seem to have a lot more technical skills than us in the first season. I'm excited to watch and see what happens."
Hosted by Keenea Linton-George, each week will see a guest judge joining resident judges Novia McDonald-Whyte and Carlton Brown, as they grade the contestants' work and eliminate the weakest link.
The various designers (from Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Belize, and, of course Jamaica) all expressed that so far the competition has been nerve-wracking, but fun. Some also noted how fortunate they feel to be able to meet other young designers from across the Caribbean and to compete for what some call 'the opportunity of a lifetime'.
Set to last 13 weeks, the series will conclude with three designers at a live showdown in Kingston with one designer taking home the amazing prize package.
In addition to showing their collection at London Fashion Week, this season's winner will also receive a scholarship to the London College of Fashion, a six-page fashion editorial in Ocean Style Magazine, industrial sewing equipment courtesy of Singer Jamaica, funding to start their clothing line courtesy of NCB, and much more.
Mission Catwalk season two will start on March 20 at 8:30 pm on TVJ and is scheduled to air across the Caribbean in Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana and Belize.
