Of the 250 countries vying for the title "coolest", our little island paradise Jamaica was ranked number three by CNNgo.com. Copping the top spot was Brazil, with Singapore trailing in second place.
According to CNN: "There's more to Jamaicans than reggae, including Rastafarianism (the most kick-back religion ever invented), an accent that's the envy of the English-speaking world and the planet's most distinctive and recognisable hairstyle. Note to backpackers: dreadlocks only cool on actual Jamaicans."
One major "cool factor" was Jimmy Cliff, The Harder They Come singer, who seems to still be bringing it at age 62. On the other hand, however, the high murder rate and widespread homophobia was a turn-off.
BET bans Nicki's video
Hip Hop diva Nicki Minaj's single Stupid Hoe has put a different spin on the definition of appropriate. As a result, BET has refused to showcase her latest video. It is not the first that the network has been criticised for condoning "sexually suggestive" music videos, however, this time, the diva went too far.
A BET Network representative claims that "the video, which not only features the title repeatedly sung over and over and over again, but also several almost naked women, was considered too explicit for the network."
The video, which portrays her next to naked, has viewers subsequently clicking the dislike button.
Elephant Man granted bail
Popular deejay Elephant Man after being taken into police custody and questioned in relation to a number of sexually-based allegations was granted bail in the tune of $400,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court.
The deejay has since been charged with the rape and sexual assault of a 31-year-old woman. Authorities say the incident happened at his St Andrew home. Elephant Man is expected to return to court for a preliminary hearing on May 21.
