EPL: Arsenal recorded their first Premier League win in the calendar year humiliating Blackburn Rovers 7-1 at the Emirates Stadium. It was a ruthless display by the Gunners who put their wastefulness at Bolton behind them to exact some measure of revenge on a hapless Rovers side.

Robin Van Persie bagged and the fast-rising Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin notched a brace to lead Arsenal to an impressive victory.

Manchester City kept their perfect record at home in the league intact with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Fulham. Kun Aguero was in the thick of things for the Citizens as he scored one and set up another for the title 'pretenders'.

Norwich and Swansea continue to impress in the Premier League as they both recorded victories over Bolton and West Brom respectively. Norwich pours more misery on Bolton with a 2-0 win, while Swansea recovered from going a goal down to come out 2-1 victors.

Two penalties from England striker Wayne Rooney brought Manchester United back from the dead to earn an unlikely 3-3 draw against Chelsea at Stanford Bridge. The hosts were riding high on a three-goal lead shortly before the hour mark, with an own goal from Jonny Evans, a David Luiz header and a Juan Mata stunner giving the Blues the advantage.

United, however, fought back with great spirit to come away with a valuable point. Newcastle's Senegalese duo Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse both scored to give them a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

Despite victories top two struggle

La Liga: Both Real Madrid and Barcelona narrowly got by their opponents to claim victories in pursuit of the La Liga title. Los Blancos remain seven points adrift Barca as a Sergio Ramos header ensured Jose Mourinho's men all three points against Getafe.

Cristian Tello and Lionel Messi gave the reigning champions a 2-0 lead against Real Sociedad before Carlos notched a goal ensuring a nervy finish for the Catalans in their 2-1 victory. Champions League hopefuls Bilbao and Espanyol played out to a thrilling 3-3 draw and in a game that provided three red cards, Mallorca came out narrow victors in a 1-0 win over Real Betis. Levante were unable to claim maximum points in their clash with Racing as the game ended 1-1.

Inter rocked

Serie A: Roma are now within touching distance of a Champions League spot after a crushing 4-0 win over Inter Milan. Former Brazil international Juan, put Roma on their way after 12 minutes and Fabio Borini netted a brace to set up the victory. Bojan Krkic added his name to the score sheet to cement the memorable win.

An own goal from Luciano allowed Parma to pick up a 2-1 win over Cheivo while Palermo edged Atalanta by a similar margin. There were four goalless draws in the round inclusive of AC Milan versus Napoli, Juventus and Siena, Lecce against Bologna and finally Novara at home to Cagliari. Fiorentina edged out Udinese in a five goal thriller coming out 3-2 victors at home to leave Udinese in third spot.

Dortmund pull clear

Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund are now two points clear atop the German Bundesliga thanks to a 2-0 away win at Nurnberg. After a scoreless first-half, the defending champions went ahead through Sebastian Kehl before Paraguay international Lucas Barrios made the points safe with calm finish.

Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Schalke all drew their matches and are now playing catch up with the defending champions. Leverkusen were held at home by Stuttgart in a 2-2 draw, while Croatian striker Ivica Olic rescued a point for the Bayern in their 1-1 stalemate with Hamburg.

Mid-table Mainz denied title-chasing Schalke all three points in a 1-1 draw. Augsburg again avoided defeat in a 2-2 draw with Hoffenheim and it was goalless between Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg.

Hannover claimed a slender 1-0 victory over Hertha Berlin. Werder Bremen drew 2-2 with Freiburg while Koln recovered from last week's defeat to record a 1-0 victory over Kaiserslautern.
