The 'R' should be a five-star hit in New Kingston — Bogdanovich

Savvy investor Joe Bogdanovich says that he is confident that the new “R” Hotel, formally The Renfrew Hotel, will be a hit in New Kingston.

“I think it is going to be a hit,” Bogdanovich told the Jamaica Observer recently, in the midst of promoting his other major event for 2017 — the annual Reggae Sumfest which started in Montego Bay this weekend.

Personally, he would have loved to have the “R” opened for business early this summer, allowing the newest addition to the growing number of luxury hotels in New Kingston to enjoy some of the uptick from the summer festival. However, that is clearly out of the question now. But there is the coming winter season, and the “R” is actually expected to open its doors in October.

Bogdanovich and his partner in the “R”, architect Evan Williams — who has made it his dream concept for decades now — believe that their product is competitive with any other accommodation in the commercial heart of Jamaica's capital city.

“We are not a resort hotel, but we are a five-star hotel in the business market; our service and facility will be five-star. It's not too big, it's not too small, and we are an extended-stay accommodation,” explained Bogdanovich.

The “R” Hotel is positioned as an extended-stay hotel targeting the business and diplomatic communities.

Located in the heart of New Kingston, it is a welcome addition to Kingston's hotel landscape, offering affordable temporary luxury-infused accommodation for business travel or vacation as well as exceptional guest services.

The Brand Jamaica concept features prominently at the hotel, which boasts Jamaican artwork and locally designed furniture.

There is also visual art from some of Jamaica's most talented artists — such as Beti Campbell, Maxine Gibson, Richard Natoo, Michael Elliot, Milton George, George Pearson, and Merrilee Draculach. The works will be displayed throughout the lobby, in all guest rooms and suites, and will also be available for purchase in the hotel's art gallery. Locally crafted furniture such as headboards and other furnishings in guest rooms and the lobby, commissioned by Snjez and Zoda, will be another key feature in the hotel's décor.

Amenities and services to suit the needs of the travelling business executive will be abundantly provided by the R Hotel, in addition to several unique offerings. Featured amenities include flat screen smart TVs, meeting room and business centre access, complimentary gym, art gallery, access to private, indoor and outdoor rooftop dining, rooftop lap pool overlooking the city, and secure underground parking. Double-glazed windows extend throughout to reduce external noise and also to create greater efficiency in air conditioning, while environmental sensibility is evident in the design of solar-powered public area lighting, and solar water heaters for guest rooms.

Unique offerings include the following: state-of-the-art highly available and resilient internet connectivity for all guests, 24-hour video surveillance coverage throughout the hotel, teleconferencing services, integrated messaging system, and complimentary wireless internet access.

The “R” Hotel will offer guests the option of luxury-infused rooms and suites in four categories; the standard deluxe room, Standard Deluxe room with a fully equipped kitchenette, a penthouse with a private balcony offering spectacular views of the city, or a stylish and spacious two-bedroom penthouse loft suite inclusive of balcony and kitchenette.
