New York is always a hot and haute summer travel destination, and with temperatures scaling up to 100 degrees last week, SO has a primer for the haute part of your next trip.

Caribbean Airlines

Caribbean Airlines flies daily to New York from Kingston and Montego Bay, and now flying economy also takes a decidedly more comfortable turn with its new premium service, Caribbean Plus. For an additional US$15, US$25 or US$35 (depending on your destination) economy passengers get sweet extras like earlier boarding, speedier exit and seats with more legroom. This way, you can make like a VIP when you have more dash than cash.

Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and Human Imagination
The Met 5th Avenue and The Met Cloisters, now through to October 2018.
Each year the Met Gala creates a stir among fashion junkies, but long before celebs make their way up the Grand Staircase of one of the
world's most significant repositories of culture, art historians have deftly researched and curated an exhibition of the intellect and skill
that inspires fashion. This year's Costume Institute exhibition, which explores the relationship between style and the Catholic Church, is a
blockbuster, with a lush story comprising pieces from 55 designers unravelling like a gilded thread from the Museum's downstairs hall and
continuing at the nearby Cloisters. One cannot help but reference Fellini's Roma and its famous ecclesiastic fashion show scene which was
initially censored by the Vatican on the film's release. Interesting, then, to note that among the exhibits are 40 rare vestments on loan from the
Vatican, and that Cardinal Timothy Dolan loaned a mitre to Queen Rih which delivered a touch of realism to the show-stopping jewel-encrusted
Maison Margiela outfit she wore to the gala. Plan your visit well, as you will need time to see the totality of the mastery and complexity of the
Catholic imagination of some of fashion's most essential influencers, among them Schiaparelli, Balenciaga and Saint Laurent.

NYC Restaurant Week
At participating restaurants, July 23 to August 17.
NYC Restaurant Week is the world's first week-long culinary celebration, and though oft
replicated, it remains matchless. After all, NYC is the culinary epicentre of our time. With
prix-fixe meals at over 380 of the city's finest restaurants (two-course lunch, US$26; threecourse
dinner, US$42), NYC Restaurant Week is the thinking person's passport to a culinary
exploration like no other. Insiders know that your best bet to scoring tables at the most
coveted restaurants is to choose to dine at lunch or on Sunday. Look for wine and cocktail
pairings worth your while for an extra US$25.
