Sandals Foundation boosts football summer camp

Friday, August 10, 2018

With brand new football gear in hand and a profound motivational presentation prepared, volunteers from the Sandals Foundation recently paid a visit to a team of 40 young footballers attending a summer camp at Ocho Rios High School.

The pep talks and discussions which are in alignment with the foundation's mandate to positively engage youth across the region, were aimed at encouraging these young players to remain focused on their goals and determinations.

Assistant coach of Ocho Rios Romario Cater welcomed the support and motivational talks.

“The development of the game is critical for the future of football in our nation. Children in Jamaica need to develop the discipline and fundamental skills to truly be able to not just play, but also appreciate the game. It surely is a nice touch when organisations like the Sandals Foundation assist in creating such an atmosphere where our youths can develop and hone their skills,” Carter reasoned.

Sandals Ochi Beach Resort Hotel Manager Kevin Clarke, in his presentation, encouraged the young men to stay true to their aspirations and work hard until it comes to fruition.

“It is important that you start the journey to your dreams from early, and this camp is the perfect opportunity to do so, many others would have loved to, but are not here today so cherish it,” he shared.

The young men beamed with excitement after receiving the new gear, which included socks and cones.

Captain Shamar Raddie was among those that anxiously awaited the day's training session where they had an opportunity to put the new gear to the test.

“I am very appreciative of the donation given to us. If it had not been for the camp I would have been home. I have been given the chance to do something fun with my summer and this camp with my coaches has taught me a lot about the game, much more than I ever thought I knew,” Raddie declared.

For Sandals Resorts Regional Public Relations Manager Lyndsay Isaacs, “It was truly an honour for Sandals Foundation to support the dreams of our youth by inspiring and motivating them to dig deeper to achieve their goals and reach their true potentials”.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Evans, IRIE FM's sport personality and sales manager encouraged the young men to 'buckle down' as success rests on the relentless pursuit of excellence.

“With talent you are good, but with discipline and determination you are better. Take this approach to life and you will be unstoppable in your endeavours,” Evans urged.
