Plummer's late strike lifts Reno past H'View

FC Reno stifled Harbour View FC's upward progress with a late one-goal victory in a rescheduled Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) night game at the Harbour View Compound on Thursday.

Second-half change Romone Plummer dealt Harbour View the blow with a 35-yard right-foot powerhouse in the first minute of time added that deprived 'The Stars of the East' a chance of moving up the table. The defeat instead saw them slip from fifth to sixth on 13 points, while the victors climbed two places up to fifth on 15 points.

The goal came at a time when much of the crowd was heading out the venue after settling for a draw. Then it happened through Plummer, who added life to the Reno attacks after entering play in minute 70. The Harbour View defence, guided by Ajeanie Talbott and Damarley Oliver, had held sway over the Reno attack, led by Craig Foster, but the introduction of Plummer for Kavar Walker began to rock the boat. His scoring was not surprising. What was, however the distance, timing and pinpoint accuracy of the shot that seemed to clip the inside of the upright on its way in.

There was silence rather than the expected uproar had the boot been on the other foot.

Harbour View had only themselves to blame for the defeat as they created chances that went abegging due to faulty shooting.

“Hats off to our boys. They went back into some serious training after the game was postponed on Monday night and this looks to be just reward for that effort. FC Reno are executing well at the right time. It is two from two on the trot now and all we need to do is to keep our focus and continue to work harder. Harbour View had their chances, but blew it by failing to execute,” said Reno Coach Michael Graham.

The result could have been more disastrous for Harbour View but for two exceptional saves from goalkeeper Joel Johnson — one in each half. But for the value of the goal scored by Plummer, the title of Man Of the Match could have gone to the goalkeeper.
