Ibero Star, King Gate close gap in St James football

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Ibero Star SC and King Gate FC closed the gaps in their respective zones with contrasting wins last weekend in the St James Football Association Guardian Group Division Two.

Both teams moved up in the tables in their zones to make the races for the semi-final places closer as Ibero Star SC got points after West Green FC failed to show up at Spot Valley in Zone Two, and King Gate spanked Belmount FC 6-1 at the UDC Field in Zone One.

With the points Ibero Star improved to third place on 14 points, two behind joint leaders Rose Mount FC and Sandals All-Stars SC.

Resean Gray scored twice for King Gate in their runaway win to take over the lead in the goalscoring race with five goals as they moved into second place, ahead of Belmount FC on goal difference, but with both teams tied on 12 points, King Gate FC have played one more game.

Bickersteth FC lead Zone One with 16 points.

The teams were tied at 1-1 at 30 minutes after Ricardo Johnson gave King Gate the lead in the 23rd and Sachin Doman equalised seven minutes later.

Shaquielle Jackson restored King Gate FC's lead in the 35th minute as they went into the half-time leading 2-1.

Gray grabbed a brace early in the second half when he scored in the 50th and 53rd minutes as King Gate raced to a 4-1 lead, while Bobby James added a fifth in the 64th minute and Dervin Minto scored another in the 67th.
