Gaynsteadd, Queen's School in exciting 32-32 draw in Urban high school netball

GAYNSTEAD High and The Queen's School played to a thrilling 32-32 draw in their feature match of the 2017 Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Urban High School Senior League encounter at St Andrew High School for Girls on Monday.

The encounter was a top-of-the-table clash to decide the winners of Group Two, as both teams ended with 13 points each from five matches to complete the second-round fixtures.

As a result of the draw, the winners of Group Two had to be decided on goal difference, Gaynstead came out on top with a goal difference of 2.89 to Queen's 2.09 in second spot.

Group One in the Senior League was topped by defending champions Excelsior High with 15 points from five matches with St Catherine High finishing second on 12 points.

St Catherine High came out on top of Group One in the Junior League with 15 points from five games, with St Hugh's High finishing second with 12 points, while defending champions Gaynstead topped Group Two with 15 points from five starts, while Norman Manley High came second with 12 points.

The semi-finals are scheduled to be played tomorrow at the Leila Robinson Courts. In the Junior League semi-finals, St Catherine will face Norman Manley, while Gaynstead take on St Hugh's at 2:30 pm.

In the Senior League semi-finals tomorrow, champions Excelsior will play The Queen's School, and Gaystead take on St Catherine High at 3:30 pm.

Meanwhile, the feature clash between Gaynstead and The Queen's School was very exciting and evenly contested from the outset. Gaynstead managed to take a slim 7-6 lead at the break, before taking a 14-13 advantage at half-time.

Gaynstead went into a five-goal lead at 22-17 in the third quarter and looked to be moving away from their opponents, but The Queen's countered nicely and rallied strongly to be down 23-27 at the final break.

Meanwhile, in other Senior League matches played, defending champions Excelsior High gained a walkover against Ardenne High who did not report for their match; St Catherine High eased past Holy Trinity High 30-10; Camperdown High defeated Tivoli High 35-12, and St Andrew Technical High School outscored Campion College 24-19.

In Junior League action, Gaynstead High defeated The Queen's School 36-21; St Catherine High beat Jose Marti Technical 26-8; Camperdown High defeated Mona High 32-19; St Hugh's outscored Holy Childhood High 31-23, and Excelsior High got past Merl Grove High 12-10.
