Loose Cannon, a chestnut colt by Blue Pepsi Lodge out of the Market Rally mare Devil Woman, will seek to begin his four-year-old campaign when he takes on a fit field of Overnight Allowance runners to highlight a trophyless 10-race card at Caymanas Park today.

The three-year-olds and upward call has attracted a field of 10 going six furlongs (1,200m) for a purse of $1 million and is scheduled go to post at approximately 4:30 pm, with the first post at 12:10 pm.

Racing at this level for the first time on December 26, 2017 over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m), Loose Cannon was beaten by a length and quarter by Dwayne Star and stable companion Lottery Ticket in a good 1:17.4 minutes, which showed that he can handle the pace of this class. However, he did beat a good field of runners over the same distance on Diamond Mile Race Day (December 2017) in a Stakes record time of 1:18.3 minutes, so the potential is there for Loose Cannon.

But now going half-furlong (100m) shorter for this Overnight Allowance call and with no Dwayne Star or Lottery Ticket in the mix, Loose Cannon looks prepared well enough to open his new year's account by spreadeagling this field. Jockey Omar Walker will ride.

Loose Cannon's most potent danger could reside in the lightly weighted and recent winner Diligent to be ridden by Anthony Thomas, along with Gary Glitter, who has worked very well coming into the race with more than a hint of expectancy with Dick Cardenas in the irons. Prolific Princess from the barn of new trainer Junior Small should also be one of the dangers.

A very consistent sort by Deputy Glitters out of the Dixie Union mare True Virtue, Gary Glitter seldon runs a bad race, but was behind Loose Cannon when they last met. However, Gary Glitter looks in better shape this time around and could now be up to the challenge with the distance reduced.

Prolific Princess ( Legal Process - Nuttin But Red) has kept better company than these and with her class and talent, this six-year-old mare should not be left out of calculations. Odeen Edwards has the leg up.

Another who could turn up unexpectedly is Polly B. The distance is not out of his reach, but his sketchy preparation suggests he could be just waiting for an easier opportunity , though with this six-year-old bay gelded son of Storm Craft/Dusty Milly, one never knows.
