WITH the 2018 Burger King-sponsored Super Race Day done and dusted last weekend, the attention now shifts to the two-year-olds as they set to compete over seven furlongs (1,400m) for the Abbie Grannum Memorial Cup feature at Caymanas Park today.

A good-looking field of 10 juveniles are down to take part in the maiden special weight event, with more than half of the field in with a sound chance of bringing home the major share of $900,000.

The winner of the race is more than likely to come from first-time runners Breaton Gigolo and Emerald Star along with Matriarch, Divine Lixie, Don Julio, Salah, Fighting Valbee and Riddim Up.

The race is positioned as the sixth event on the 10-race card and is set to go to post at 2:50 pm with first race at 11:50 am.

Fighting Valbee, from the barn of Michael Marlowe, is expected to open as the favourite of the race based on her fourth place finished on debut on October 15.

The bay filly, after up with pace, weakened in the last two furlongs (400m) and ended up behind by 8 lengths to Princess Annie, Cairo and Duke over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m).

Since the Fighting Valbee has been working quite well coming into the race and with laxis administrated she is expected to lead home rivals in this Cup race.

Riddim Up and Don Julio, both from the barn of Wayne DaCosta, have shown some ability in their gallops so far and both are expected to run good races here.

The Anthony Nunes-trained Matriarch is yet to impress in her five starts to date, but this is her easier task so far and she should come into her own. Matriarch ( Casual TrickWitchcraft) has been bred to get a distance of ground and will run well here.

Another one who is bred to go long is the Johnny Wilmot-trained Devine Lexie ( Natural Selection–Preach Preacher). She tailed home on last when racing Americans Stranger Danger and American Invader over five and a half furlongs (1,100m), but she is among company that she can manage and a winning run is on the table for her here.

Salah showed nothing on debut over four furlongs (800m) straight on October 31, when he finished in eighth place by 19 lengths behind Lady Blue. He should be better for that outing and has worked fairly well for this, and so could upset calculations here.

There is not much to say about Braeton Gigolo and Emerald Star, but they have been working well for this race and both are expected to run well.
