2-straight for Mt Alvernia in girls basketball

BROWN'S TOWN, St Ann — Former champions Mt Alvernia High School won their second game in a row to take over the lead of the ISSA Western Conference Girls' Open basketball competition after a big 67-4 victory over newcomers York Castle High in Brown's Town on Thursday.

Four players scored double digit points for the Montego Bay school, led by a double-double from Chrisana Thorpe, as they raced to four points, while York Castle suffered a second-straight blowout loss, failing to get into double digits as a team.

On Tuesday, York Castle were beaten 55-5 by Herbert Morrison Technical.

Mt Alvernia High's defence held York Castle to no points in the first half, leading 9-0 and 20-0 after the first two quarters before scoring 47 points in the second half.

Thorpe scored a game-high 20 points and had 10 steals, Ashley Amore scored 12 points while Sanique Blake and Abigail Wright both scored 10 points each, and Sasaikea Malcolm also had 10 steals.
