Ugandan takes the marathon, final Olympic running event

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The marathon, the final event if the London 1012 Olympics finished this morning with a Ugandan named Kiprotich taking top spot.

This the first marathon win for the African country.

"I can say I am very happy to win a medal for my country. I love my people. Uganda are very happy because we haven't won a medal in marathon races (before)," said an elated Stephen Kiprotich who beat his namesake, Kenyan Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich into third place.

Another Kenyan, Abel Kirui, placed second.
