Trinitutor cruises in Hot Lines Stakes

BY HURBUN WILLIAMS Observer writer

Sunday, February 19, 2012

TRINITUTOR emerged from between horses at the top of the lane and took the lead with a combustible late run to win the 18th running of the $1,066,00 Hot Lines Stakes at Caymanas Park yesterday.

Owned by Randford M Randall, Trinitutor won the Restricted Allowance II event for non-winners of two native-bred three-year-old fillies by a widening four-and-a-half lengths.

Ridden by Omar Walker and running for only the second time, it was the first real glimpse of anything really special among native-bred three-year-old fillies this season. The filly completed 1200 metres in a tidy 1:13 flat to register her second win from two starts.

Joint 6-5 favourite Exotic Gold, ridden by leading jockey Dane Nelson, came from well off the pace to finish second. Stablemate Tantaloo, ridden by Trevor Simpson, who prompted the early pace until entering the final 400m, held on to show as a 31-1 betting option, while the 9-1 chance, She's Traditional, completed the frame at odds of 9-1, partnered by Paul Francis in the field of nine.

Gary Subratie, who trains the filly, said he couldn't ask for "a more good tempered horse to prepare. She eats well and works accordingly."

Bred in the purple a bay filly by Ghost Ransom out of Kathythetraina (Conquitador Cielo), Trinitutor is half to both 2006 Derby winner Ranson Man and Uncle Ken, the 2010 promising Classic prospect who was sidelined by injury as a two-year-old after winning the Supreme Ventures Pick 3 event and placing third in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes.

Trevor James, who bred the filly, said: "I'm not a bit surprised by the progress and performance of this filly. From she was two months' old, she showed good temperament and that she was a figther as she never allowed herself to be dominated by older arrivals.

"With that quality of spirit and being out of a staying breed on both sides, I'm expecting her to go on to better things," James added.

Some of what James outlined was demonstrated by Trinitutor in the race as she never fussed or looked in any danger, while bidding her time along the running rails as Tantaloo on the outside took the field along.

With 500m remaining, Walker became more active and began to urge the filly forward and just before entering the the final quarter, the four-time champion jockey switched the filly off the rails for a more central and clearer run from between horses.

The filly then expoded from the pack to announce herself on the racing scene as a potential Classic aspirant with a consummate win.
