Six-fight card to honour Bruising Gym trio
Friday, February 17, 2012
THE Bruising Gym in Stony Hill will host a six-fight card at the Stony Hill Primary and Junior High this evening to celebrate the deparure of coach Carl Grant and boxers Michael Gardener and Felise Grove on a three-week training sting in Cardiff, Wales in preparation for the Olympic Qualifiers.
The trio leaves on Saturday and Grant says they hope to acquire as much knowledge as they can to improve their careers.
"I'm going to be a certified coach and this is a blessing for me and the Bruising Gym family...," he said.
"An experience like this is like when you win the lotto without buying a lotto ticket, so this is a big big thing for us and the sky's the limit... We'are going there with an open mind to learn all that we can... to enhance our careers," he reiterated.
"Come Friday evening we have big boxing at Stony Hill Primary and Junior High. We have a six fight card... with four amatuer bouts," he explained.
He also said it was the main reason he wanted Holmes to fight on the opening night of the Contender Series on Wednesday night.
"The reason why Dwayne fought... is because I didn't want to go away and leave him and they pick him out of the pack without me being here.
"So we tell them that we're going to win the challenge phase and make him fight because I wanted to be in his corner," he explained.
