Rural school TT moves into high gear

Thursday, February 16, 2012

PLAY in the Rural North Eastern Zone of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) table tennis competition for Under-19 boys was completed on Tuesday with Dinthill winning by default from newcomers York Castle who did not field a team.

Former champions St Mary High topped the zone with maximum eight points and will advance to the Rural round-robin final. Their Under-19 girls teammates also qualified last week for the final.

Dinthill finished second on six points and will contest the round-robin semi-finals.

In four Urban Under-16 boys matches, St Jago maintained their perfect-win record, clipping former champions Kingston College, 3-2, and Norman Manley crushing Jamaica College 4-1 in Group One. In Group Two, Hillel trounced Gaynstead 4-1 and St George's defeated defending champions Campion 4-1.

After these results in Group One, St Jago lead with 14 points, KC 12, Norman Manley eight, JC seven, and newcomers Ascot have six points.

In Group Two, Hillel are on top with 13 points followed by St George's and Gaynsted on 10 points each, with Campion and Wolmer's Boys' on nine points apiece.

The top-three finishers from each group will progress to the semi-finals.
