Roman smashes seven records at Rodgers Meet
Sunday, February 19, 2012
BREANNA Roman of Swimaz Aquatic accounted for seven of 12 meet records so far as Tornadoes Swim Club led the points standing at press time at the Walter Rodgers Age Group National Championships at the National Stadium Pool.
Competing in the Girls 15 & Over, Roman was impressive in shattering 200m breaststroke, taking more than five seconds off her old mark of 2:49.75 set last year.
She swam 2:44.61, beating her arch-rival at this meet, Daniel Boothe of Camana Bay Aquatic, who clocked 2:54.40. Priscilla McClure of Tornadoes placed third in 3:01.40.
So impressive was Roman's time that she was faster than the winner in the boys' equivalent, Sidrell Williams of Marlins, who won the 15 & Over wit 2:48.19. Antoine Young of Blue Seals was second in 2:48.29 with Easton Prince of Y Speedos third in 2:52.60.
Roman also broke meet records in the 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 800m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 400m freestyle and 50m breaststroke.
Meanwhile, Y Speedos' Angara Sinclair, the star of the Karl Dalhouse a few weeks ago, broke the meet record in the Girls 11-12 100m backstroke. She erased the old mark of 1:16.33 for a new standard of 1:12.61.
Joseph Black of Tornadoes and Kevaughn Campbell of Swimaz were the other record breakers of individual events, namely the Boys 11-12 1500m freestyle and the Boys 13-14 50m breaststroke.
Trailing Tornadoes were Y Speedos on 585 points, Marlin 501, Swimaz 397, Stingray of Cayman 146, Blue Seal 137, Flying Fish Ambassadors 85, Camana Bay of Cayman 28, and Royal Swim Club 14.
The meet continues today at 9:00 am.
