Monday, February 20, 2012
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Twenty-one schools from Eastern Jamaica will today commence the two-day battle for the Jamaica National trophy in the Eastern Secondary Sports Association (ESSA) Athletic Championship at the National Stadium.
Defending championship Oblerlin will be seeking their 16th title in 21 years, but a strong challenge is expected from a strong field events team out of Buff Bay, who clinched the championship two years ago.
Also, strong tests are expected from St Mary High with the likes of Jodean Williams in the Class One sprint double, Morant Bay High, Titchfield and Glengoffe High.
"We are the defending champions and we have something to lose. We have a rounded team and will try to have a finalist in each event," said Everton Leslie, Oberlin's coach.
The meet, which will start at 9:00 am, will have timed finals in the 1,500 metres.
