Kingston Commissioners ahead in Golden League football

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Kingston Commissioners have shot back to the top of the 12-team 2012 Bull Investment Golden League following their 2-0 victory over St George's Old Boys on Sunday at the Barbican playing field.

George Beckford and Phillip Chung were on target for Kingston Commissioners who moved to 12 points from five rounds of matches.

They are ahead of Christian Ambassadors — 2-0 winners over Real Mona through a brace from Barry Simpson — on goal difference (plus eight to plus five) and two ahead of defending champions Santos, who squandered a glorious opportunity to surge to the lead after Ian Burnett scored twice to give them the lead only for Anthony Abrahams an Peter Mullings to pull Packers level.

Real Mona are next, also on 10 points, but with in inferior goal difference to Santos (plus two to plus 11), after going down 0-2 to Christian Ambassadors.

Barbican, who played out a 0-0 result with Wonders, come next on eight points, followed by Shortwood on seven. Shortwood blanked Eastern 2-0 on Sunday through goals from Byron Nunes and Frantz Rowe.

Packers, Wonders and St George's College Old Boys come next on five points, followed by Real Veterans on four, Pelicans on two and Eastern at the bottom of the table with one point.

In Sunday's final game Real Veterans defeated Pelicans 3-1 through a brace from Al Pillner and the other from Byron Earle. Keith Allen netted the consolation for Pelicans.

The over-45 competition continues at the same venue today.
