Crucial wins in South Central Super League

AH

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Naggo Head, New Green and Bodles were all victorious in the South Central Super League 10th round of matches played on the weekend, while the mid-table remains a tight group after Rivoli and Meadows dropped points.

Rivoli maintained the lead atop the 12-team table despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Newland at Monk Street, while Christopher Russell's Meadows, in second position, have company on their shoulders after playing to a 2-2 draw with Royal Lakes at Lime Tree.

While Rivoli have maintained their six-point lead, Meadows have seen theirs significantly cut, as Bodles (15 points) now sit a point behind in third after Dave Bertram's strike mid-way the first half gave them a 1-0 win over Downs at Bodles.

Naggo Head climbed to fourth with 14 points after coming away 2-1 winners over De la Vega City, who remain second from bottom.

Manchester's New Green moved two places up to seventh, thanks to a 36th-minute strike from Twain Walcott in their 1-0 win over Spartan.

Super Action of St Elizabeth were on the brink of registering their second win of the season after Denmark Gillings scored in the 65th minute, but Monymusk's Chris Dunn (90th) salvaged a point for the hosts in the dying moments of the game.

At the end of round 10, a mere three points separate fifth-placed Spartan on 12 points and Newland FC in 10th position, while De la Vega (eight) and Super Action (seven) occupy the relegation zone.
