THE $715,00 Abbie Grannum Memorial Cup maiden special weight run for native-bred juveniles where the untried will compete is the main event on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park today.

The event has attracted a field of 11 going 1,400m and scheduled to be run at approximately 4:30 pm. First post is 12:30 pm.

Eight of the 11 runners already have one or two races under their girths and it is from this lot the winner is expected to come. But first-timer Agakhan could prove a stumbling block to his more experienced rivals.

A well-built chestnut colt by Greatness out of Yes Please (Crowd Pleaser) and bred by Ham Stables Ltd, Agakhan is owned by Bloodstock Limited and trained by Richard Azan, who is also a part owner.

Agakhan looked fluent in preparation for his debut and with a name as influential as that of the Aga Khan, the billionaire thoroughbred owner who stands at the upper echelon of thoroughbred racing, the imported colt must be of some worth.

But stablemate Doc Holiday, Awesome Code and The Best Flyer could prove to have matching abilities at this stage, having done enough in their previous runs and preparations.

Doc Holiday, shooting from barrier 11, was slow into stride on debut behind stablemate Border Line. The bay colt by Wizard Of Gold out of Jamaica 1000 Guineas winner Si Mi Trial (Crucial Trial) and bred by Fairway Farms never recovered from the poor start but will be more focused and with leading jockey Dane Nelson replacing claiming apprentice Jemar Jackson, the Agakhan should not be too far off.

Awesome Code, a dark bay colt by Code Warning out of Awesome Power (The Medic) who is bred, owned and trained by Carl Anderson, was a four-length loser to Border Line over the trip on last. Now better prepared, he could mount a serious challenge with jockey Andre Martin recalled to the saddle.

The Best Flyer is a consistent chestnut gelding by Dayton Flyer out of Best Decorated (Mr Nutcracker) and bred by Lorenzo Robinson. He is most experience runner in the line-up.

Owned by Milton C Forrester, The Best Flyer will enter the fray well drilled by trainer Uton Stewart to return to the event in which he was beaten by Awesome Code and finished just ahead of Doc Holiday.
