UKRAINIAN reggae singer Lady Valy, who is a trained karate champion, has her sights set on competing in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

She visited Jamaica two years ago to promote her single Mama. Recently she released the video for the song Destiny. In the video she makes a transformation from artiste to athlete.

“My dream goes to 2020 and beyond. Most importantly, the journey affords me the opportunity to show my children what it takes to fight for your dreams,” she told Jamaica Observer.

“I have done karate my whole life. My mother signed me up for karate when I was six to help me battle severe asthma. Not only did karate help me overcome asthma, it became a lifelong passion,” she continued.

In March Lady Valy (given name Valentyna Zolotarova) won a bronze medal at the US Open in Las Vegas. She also won a gold medal at the Canada Open in Vancouver in June. In September she won gold at the prestigious 18th Euro Gran Prix Pilsen Open in Czech Republic.

She also spoke about her recent single Destiny.

“I released Destinyat the end of 2016, right before I began competing in the 55 kg Women's Category in 2017. The song and the music video capture my passion for music and karate. Music comes from the heart and so does karate, and I wanted this passion to be evident in both the track and the video,” she said.

Lady Valy, who lived in Canada for 17 years, shared her long-term musical goals.

“My long-term musical goals are simple; to touch the hearts of those who enjoy my music, uplift and inspire them. Energy and inspiration is what I want to be for my listeners.”
