BARRETT TOWN, St James — The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) through their regional office in Montego Bay, recently gifted a public address (PA) system to the Barrett Town All-Age School for use in scholastic activities and to better improve overall operations at the school.

Accepting the gift, acting principal for the school, Ventris Edwards, expressed gratitude for the PA system, explaining that it would greatly assist in operations at the school.

“We are so elated, the staff at the JTB led by Mrs [Odette] Dyer came by the school last year and participated in our devotional exercise. The teachers and students were so happy as we interacted well. This eventually led to JTB hosting a Christmas treat last year for the children. We spoke as to the needs of the school and some items that could really benefit us and the PA system was among the list and thankfully, they are here helping us again,” said an elated Edwards.

“We are looking forward to using this especially in our classes for music and reading. We have audio books and stories as a teaching aid and this will go a far way in helping us in our delivery in the classrooms. I know the teachers are really appreciative of this, and I can assure the JTB that we will take very good care of this system. We consider the team from JTB our family now and we look forward to working with them on other projects, they have been wonderful and very accommodating.”

JTB Regional Director Odette Dyer explained that the system was chosen as an ideal gift, as it would benefit the entire school.

“As part of our activities at the office we decided to see where we could assist especially in our immediate environs.

After the discussions with the school we realised that the PA system would have the most impact and be beneficial for the entire school body. The staff was also happy to reach out and interact and engage with the teachers and students, and moreover happy that they were able to assist the school,” Dyer stated.

The Barrett Town All-Age School is a government-owned institution located in the community of Barrett Town, St James. The school was commissioned into operation in September 1972 and was built to accommodate 300 pupils.
