TWO primary school teachers — one from St Catherine and the other from St Thomas — are facing sexual assault charges for acts allegedly committed against their students, who at that level would not be more than 12 years old.

In the St Catherine incident, detectives assigned to the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse charged the school teacher, whose name is currently being withheld to facilitate further investigations, with:

• having sexual intercourse with a person under 16;

• indecent assault; and

• grievous sexual assault.

Police alleged that the accused, who teaches the complainant at a primary school in the parish, allegedly convinced the child to engage him in sexual activities on more than one occasion.

The constabulary's Corporate Communication Unit said the St Thomas Teacher was arrested and charged on Tuesday, also for the offence of having sexual intercourse with a person under 16.

The Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse reported that the accused, who also teaches the complainant, allegedly convinced the child to engage him in sexual activities on more than one occasion.

He is scheduled to appear before the St Thomas Parish Court on Wednesday, January 24 to answer to the charges.

The name of the St Thomas teacher is also being withheld to facilitate further investigations.
