PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Spirited cultural performances in tribute to the island's national heroes were delivered yesterday morning by Drapers Basic School's Unique Group and Port Antonio Theatre Group at the annual Portland Heroes' Day Parade in Port Antonio square.

The well-attended event, which ran for two hours, saw the Drapers Basic School Group, along with teacher and founder Norene Pollock, doing a piece entitled Nanny in honour of National Hero Nanny of the Maroons.

The piece, written by Pollock, captivated the audience, so did a dub poem titled Our Heroes performed by the Port Antonio Theatre Group and which was written by founder Dr Maureen Campbell.

Port Antonio Mayor Paul Thompson brought greetings and read the prime minister's message, while Dr Lynvale Bloomfield, member of parliament for Portland Eastern, read the leader of the opposition's message.

Custos of Portland Major Lincoln Thaxter read the governor general's message. Floral arrangements were laid for all the heroes.
