MINISTER of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Audley Shaw will be the main speaker at tomorrow's media launch of the 2019 Caribbean MSME (Medium, Small, Micro Enterprises) Conference.

The launch is being staged jointly by the Small Business Association of Jamaica (SBAJ) and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries.

In a release, the SBAJ said that it will be hosting this second Regional Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (MSME) Conference April 16-18, 2019 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston.

“As with the previous conference held in 2017, the organisers envisage the participation of a broad mix of stakeholders, particularly business owners, innovators, regulators, buyers and sellers of goods and services who will be networking, collaborating, promoting their capabilities and brands, developing new business and outsourcing opportunities,” according to SBAJ president Hugh Johnson.

He said that the objectives of this year's conference include: facilitating exposure to new trends in business development and management; promoting success stories among MSMEs; examining MSME policy within a context of macro-economic strategy and its impact on business profitability; providing a forum for B2B interaction to explore opportunities for national, regional and international business collaboration/linkages; and exposing participants to new technologies and research and development in agriculture, as well as climate smart innovation.

The SBAJ is a private non-profit business organisation registered in 1974 to foster the growth and development of businesses and professional groups, and to represent the entire small and micro business sector in Jamaica.

The association represents businesses employing one to employees with an income turnover not exceeding US$5 million per annum.
