No injuries in latest JUTC bus fire

Friday, May 19, 2017

Passengers in a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus yesterday escaped injuries when the vehicle caught fire on Dunrobin Avenue in St Andrew.

Reports are that, while driving, the bus driver was alerted to fire coming from the rear of the bus about 10:00 am.

The driver reportedly pulled off the road, evacuated the passengers and used a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze.

The Half-Way-Tree Fire Department responded to a call at approximately 10:18 am, according to District Officer Christopher Marsh.

When the team got to the location, the blaze had already been extinguished.

“When we arrived at the given location, we saw residue from a fire extinguisher that was used to put out the blaze. All we had to do was to use sawdust to remove oil from the roadway,” Marsh said.

The bus plies the Spanish Town to Half-Way-Tree route.
