Manpower to host dengue fever seminarMonday, February 11, 2019
MANPOWER & Maintenance Services Ltd (MMS) is hosting a dengue fever seminar on February 19 to heighten awareness about mosquito-borne diseases.
Titled 'Mosquito — Borne Diseases: Dengue Fever and its Impact on the Workforce and Communities', the seminar will be held at Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston and will be opened by Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton.
The seminar is open to both clients of the company and the public in general.
“Given the nature of our business, we see it as part of our responsibility to help to spread the word and change attitudes and behaviour concerning these diseases, which are directly related to how we dispose of waste and manage the environment in which we live,” a company news release quoted MMS Chairman and CEO Audrey Hinchcliffe.
“Because we have become accustomed to having mosquitoes around, and despite our experience with ChikV and the Zika virus, many persons still do not understand that mosquitoes are deadly pests and that we can and should do much more to control their numbers in our homes and communities,” Hinchliffe said. “This is an effort to provide vital information on the impact of these diseases on our workforce and, by extension, our communities and country, and provide strategies for control.”
The seminar, which is also sponsored by H&L Agro, will include presentations from several experts representing a wide cross section of areas, on topics such as: The Epidemiology of Dengue Fever; Diagnosis and Treatment Protocols; Infection Control; Decreasing Exposure: Pest Management and Control; Impact on Worker and Community Productivity; and Mitigation Strategies and Resource Requirements.
A panel discussion will explore the impact on communities and different sectors of the economy, including tourism.
Registration for the seminar is now open to MMS clients, as well as the public, until February 14, for a fee. Interested persons are invited to call MMS at 876-920-4721 to register.
