JUST over a month after a section of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St Andrew was destroyed by fire, arsonists struck again on Wednesday, this time destroying the lectern and five monitors.

The Jamaica Observer also learnt that food items were also stolen from the church's kitchen.

“The building was vandalised and selected sections of the interior, including the pulpit, set on fire,” a release said yesterday.

According to the release, an intruder gained entry to the church and set the fire at approximately midnight.

Security personnel, employed by the church, extinguished the blaze and the police were summoned, the release said.

On September 17, firefighters from the Half-Way-Tree fire station were summoned to extinguish another blaze at the church, after a clergyman who lives on the property was awoken by the security guard on duty.

The police are yet to make an arrest in connection with the first fire. No arrests have been made for Wednesday's incident either.

When the Observer visited the sanctuary yesterday, police personnel assigned to Scenes of Crime were processing the area.

The estimated cost of damage from Wednesday's fire has not yet been ascertained.

However, last month's damage was estimated at $100,000.

The Matilda's Corner police are investigating both fires.
