Youth advocate killed

Wednesday, February 06, 2013 | 8:36 AM

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica- The unidentified body found in an open lot in Westchester, Portmore St Catherine on Sunday February 3, has been identified as youth advocate Omar Bailey.

Bailey at the time of his passing was serving as a Jamaica Constabulary Force Safe School Officer (SRO), Jamaica’s National Youth Parliamentarian and President of the Jamaica Youth Crime Prevention Council.

According to the Youth Council’s Chairman, Ryan Small, the news of his untimely passing comes as a shock to the entire organisation as it was only on January 31 that Bailey called to organise a meeting of the crime prevention council for Monday February 4, at the Council’s Trafalgar Road Office.

“He will be remembered for always championing the need for Youth Crime Prevention Programmes. Therefore, it is disheartening that Mr Bailey became victim to the very same crime... We therefore make a special call on persons who may have information that can assist with the identification of the perpetrator (s) to make a report to the police to help them with their investigations so that those responsible can be brought to book. Let ensure that the justice is served,” Small said.
