Water woes for sections of St Mary and St Andrew
Monday, February 20, 2012
NATIONAL Water Commission (NWC) customers in sections of St Mary who are served by the Agualta Vale water supply system are being advised that the disruption they are currently experiencing in their service is due to extensive mechanical problems at the facility. The system has therefore been taken out of operation to carry out the necessary repair work.
The water supply system that serves the Islington community in the parish has been put on regulation and will now supply water to both Highgate and Islington areas on alternate days starting with Highgate areas today.
The areas that will be served by regulation have been noted as follows:
HIGHGATE AREAS:
- Belfield;
- Clonmel;
- Highgate;
- Richmond;
- Frazerwood;
- Harmony Hall and
- Tremolesworth
ISLINGTON AREAS:
- Haywood Hall;
- Robins Bay;
- Rosend;
- Baccaswood;
- Nutsfield and
- Islington
This regulated schedule will continue through to February 27.
The NWC says that despite its best effort to serve all the affected areas with this arrangement, there are some areas that will have to be supplied with trucked water due to the inadequacy of the water supply system and its inability to serve such an extensive area.
Accordingly, trucked water will be provided as follows:
Tuesday, February 21 – Harmony Hall and Sections of Richmond
Wednesday, February 22 – Belfield Line and Belfield Pen
Thursday, February 23 – Frazerwood, New Town, Lyndale Heights
Friday, February 24 – Sections of Richmond
Customers in these areas should note that a new schedule will be put in place for the following week and the necessary advisory provided. The NWC warns customers in all the affected areas to store and conserve water until the restoration of the system and the resumption of normal operations on Friday, March 2.
Also the NWC is advising customers served by the Cookhamdene Booster facility in St Andrew who are currently experiencing a disruption in their water supply that the disruption is as a result of a broken distribution main that serves the area.
The affected areas are: Jacks Hill, Barbican, Billy Dunn, Tavistock and Millsborough.
This pipeline is being repaired and restoration of service is to be expected by 8pm.
