KINGSTON, Jamaica -An alleged gunman was killed and two other men, including a police constable, shot and injured during a confrontation in Manchester this morning, the police have confirmed.
Dead is 22-year-old Laurent Lawrence, a mechanic from Hatfield in Manchester.
The police corporal who was shot and injured is at this time in hospital receiving treatment. His condition is not considered to be serious. The other injured man is also in hospital under police guard. He is said to be in stable condition, the police report said.
A third man involved in the confrontation is in police custody.
According to early reports the shootings occurred on Decarteret Road in Mandeville during an exchange of gunfire between police and gunmen early Friday. No further details on circumstances surrounding the confrontation were given when the Jamaica Observer made checks.
The incident has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations.
