STEER FIELD, St Ann — What prompted Jennifer Forbes’ decision to walk to work last week Tuesday will remain a mystery to her relatives and friends for the rest of their lives.

After all, it was customary for the 54-year-old Forbes to take a cab to the nearly two-mile journey to a chicken farm where she worked as a cook.

But as fate would have it, Forbes’ life came to an abrupt end while on her journey after a gas tanker, being pulled by a passing trailer, disconnected and fell on her. She died on the spot.

It was deja vu for Forbes’ family as only four years ago her husband died in a similar fashion. He was hit from his bicycle by a truck that was pulling a trailer in the community.

“She usually drive go down so I don’t understand why she walking this morning,” Lamented Forbes’ brother Vincent moments after his sister’s body was removed from the scene by undertakers.

“A sudden death yah just mek yuh feel like yuh out a place,” he declared.

Other family members who turned up at the scene wailed uncontrollably. One of Forbes’ two daughters had to be rushed to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital for treatment after she fainted while viewing her mother’s body.

Meanwhile, Lebert Williams — Forbes’ co-worker of over 20 years — described the woman as loving and jovial.

“She is a loving and quiet person,” he said. Other coworkers shared similar sentiments. The driver of the truck was detained by the police for questioning.
