A bodyguard assigned to Opposition parliamentarian Olivia 'Babsy' Grange and the mother of his three-month-old baby experienced a scare on Sunday night when gunmen stole their vehicle with the child on board.

The incident occurred some minutes to 9 o'clock as the mother was about to enter her house in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

According to Grange and the child's father, who asked not to be named, two men with guns held them up and drove off with the vehicle in which the infant was resting.

Within an hour, a passer-by in the inner-city community of Rivoli, Spanish Town, spotted the baby boy in his car seat along the road and took him to the police. From there the baby was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital.

The child is said to be in good condition.

"It was very frightening and terrifying," the father told the Jamaica Observer.

Following the quick action of the St Catherine North Police, the car, a Chevrolet, was found in Waterloo in the community of Sligoville, St Catherine, and two men were held. They were said to be in the process of changing the licence plates on the vehicle when the police swooped down.

Grange, the MP for Central St Catherine, commended the police on their quick response to the incident.
