NATIONAL Security Minister Peter Bunting, this morning announced that with the new crime strategies to be implemented, the government hopes to reduce crimes to 'first world levels' by 2017.

Speaking this morning at a special Post Cabinet Press Briefing at Jamaica House, Bunting said that Jamaica is experiencing an average of over three murders a day, and the aim is to bring it down to less than one murder a day come 2017.

He said for 2009, the security forces recorded an average of 62 murders per 100,000 persons, in 2011, 41 murders per 100,000 and by 2017 he projected that the figures would be reduced to 12 murders per 100,000 persons.
