Ezroy Millwod found dead

Transport sector in shock at passing of NTCS boss

Saturday, December 01, 2012 | 9:46 AM

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Ezroy Millwood, head of the National Transport Co-operative Society (NTCS) is dead.

According to Egerton Newman, National coordinator of The Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO) the NTCS boss was found dead Saturday morning.

Details into his death are still unclear at this time but the news has left several members in the transportation sector in shock.

"We are still trying to come to terms with the news at this time," Newman said this morning.

The Government and the NTCS have been locked in a bitter dispute for more than a decade, following a decision to end the sub-franchise agreement between the bus company and the state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company.

In 2009 the Privy Council made a determination how payments to Millwood should be calculated. The NTCS later sued the Government to recover losses.

Last September, the Court of Appeal ruled that the Government should pay $1.8 billion plus interest at three per cent to the NTCS.

The Government since applied to the Court of Appeal to take the matter to the Privy Council.
