Jamaica Observer
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
AN elderly mam died in a fire at Cobbler District, Manchester yesterday.
He has been identified as 72-year-old Alvin Fairman. He was burnt to death after fire destroyed a nine apartment building he was in yesterday.
The Christiana Police report that about 7:50 pm, Fairman, who was confined to bed, was reportedly asleep when the fire started. Efforts by his neighbours to rescue him proved futile. The Police and Fire Department were alerted and one unit from the Mandeville Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
Loss is estimated at approximately JMD 10 million. The building was not insured.
