KINGSTON, Jamaica — Executive Chancellor of the University College of the Caribbean (UCC), Dr Herbert Thompson, has been named as the new chairman of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ).

He replaces Professor Errol Miller who resigned on December 31 after six years in the post.

Thompson has served as an ECJ member since its formation in 2006. He was also a member of the Electoral Advisory Committee that preceded the ECJ.

An official announcement of Thompson’s appointment is expected following Wednesday’s meeting of the ECJ, which has responsibility for all electoral matters in Jamaica.
