Don't exclude untouchables — NIAL urges Bunting

Jamaica Observer

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

WHILE expressing support for security Minister Peter Bunting's announcement that the Government plans to target white collar kingpins, the National Integrity Action Limited (NIAL) urged the minister to also target high ranking politicians also.

During a press briefing this morning, Bunting said, the state was gearing to take the profits out of crime by going after white collar criminals who rarely commit acts of violence themselves but recruit foot soldiers.

In a release to the media today, the NIAL said politicians must also be held accountable.

"We urge that Mr Bunting’s emphasis on going after white collar kingpins does not exclude hitherto “untouchables” – including high ranking politicians – who by their contacts continue to elude the forces of law, order and justice," the release stated.
