MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Opposition Leader Andrew Holness says that emphasis should be placed on the development Portland as the parish could make significant contribution to the tourism industry.

“Portland in my mind is one of our undiscovered gems for tourism. The plan for Portland would not be the same for May Pen or Spanish Town but certainly, the development of the infrastructure, the built environment must facilitate the natural culture of the people,” he argued.

Holness added that he will be focusing on urban development and how it could contribute to growth in Jamaica.
“We are taking a very serious look at urban planning and urban development as a means of driving growth and development,” he said.

The Opposition leader was speaking at the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Luncheon Forum held at the Sandy Haven Resort in Negril on Saturday.
