On March 17, 2017 we published an article captioned ‘Advanced ballistics technology to help Jamaica solve gun crimes’ in which it was reported that the cost of the IBIS (Integrated Ballistics Identification System) Bullettrax-3D System, which was paid for by the Canadian Government, cost US$45,000.

The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC) has apologised for the error and stated that the actual cost to procure the system was US$341,933.

The system is expected to make it easier for the island’s forensic analysts to compare bullets in their effort to help solve gun crimes.
