Bannister Basic School needs lifeline

TEACHERS at the Bannister New Testament Basic School, located close to Old Harbour, St Catherine are this morning making a desperate plea for help.
Teachers claim that the school which has been in operation for approximately 16 years is about to close down.
"For years we have been seeking a new home for the school but the efforts are proving futile," said Donett Swearing, principal of the school.
Swearing said the school continues to be operated in the Bannister New Testament Church.
She said while she is grateful school officials face a major challenge as they have to remove all the items at the church on a daily basis.
"We have to remove all the items in and out of the church and this is causing a strain," said Swearing.
Tamice Simmonds, another teacher at the school said a shortage of resources to cater for the approximately 30 students aged between three and six years old, is also a challenge.
"As a result we are calling on any interested organisation or even the Ministry of Education," Simmonds said.
