30 arrested, 12 vehicles seized as cops hit lotto scam
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
THIRTY persons — seven of them women — were arrested and 12 motor vehicles, as well as cash and household items, seized during police operations in Montego Bay over the weekend.
Police said the 30 individuals were taken into custody in connection with lottery scamming activities, bribery and money laundering. They are being processed and interviewed.
The operations were conducted in the Rhyne Park and Rose Heights areas of Montego Bay by a multi-agency team co-ordinated and led by police personnel from Area 1.
Among the motor vehicles seized were:
* One BMW X6;
* One Audi Q7;
* Two Lexus SUVs; and
* Two Skyline motor cars
"The value of the 12 motor vehicles seized is estimated at just over $50 million," the police said in a news release last night. "Cash seized amounted to approximately $1 million. A number of household items were seized, including several flat screen televisions."
