#NatlTrials: Elaine Thompson storms to 10.70s win in 100m

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Rising sprint star Elaine Thompson stormed to a national record equalling time of 10.70 seconds to win the women’s 100m finals on day two of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA)/Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) National Senior Championships at the National Stadium in Kingston on Friday.
Thompson, running out of lane four got up well and sped away from the field to win and equal Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s national record in a positive 0.3 metres per second wind speed. She won ahead of the World and Olympic champion and MVP teammate Fraser-Pryce, who finished in 10.93 seconds, as she threw down the gauntlet ahead of the Rio Games.
University of Technology’s Christania Williams was third in a new personal best time of 10.97 seconds, as she booked her ticket to the Olympic Games for the first time, while decorated sprint queen Veronica Campbell-Brown (11.10s) was fourth.
