KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — The Government has allocated $29.72 million towards the strengthening of health systems in Jamaica.

This is outlined in the 2017-18 Estimates of Expenditure now before the House of Representatives.

The specific objective is the crafting of a comprehensive 10-year Strategic Development Plan for the health sector, as part of the integrated health service delivery framework.

The project also has as its objective the creation of operating tools (non-communicable diseases (NCD) screening policy, screening protocol, and training modules) to complement the implementation of the plan.

The money will be used for the development of the National Preparedness Plan and Road Map to prepare for the potential threat of the Ebola virus disease (EVD).

Also, a public education campaign is to be developed and placed to sensitise the general public about the diseases, symptoms and associated risk factors.

The project is being funded by the Government of Jamaica and the Inter- American Development Bank.
